One of the best free original shooters I have seen from Japan and best known game. I was surfing the Internet for free games until I found Cave Story as a free download and had no idea that the game was actually known for its originality in game play. Cave Story then was made for Mac, Linux, PSP, GP2X, Xbox, and a Nintendo DS (Demo) coded to work on these sytems.
I have played the game myself and actually got into it real easy then played hours nonstop. I will recommend this game to anyone even if you have a hard time playing this game you will still have a great time playing this game. Got lost? A Boos Battle
The only bad thing is that the game has no sequel and not a lot of people know about this game. A WiiWare version should be out December 2008 not sure if they are going to delay this release. There is also hacked versions of the game made by other Cave Story fans and tools to do these hacks. People likes this game for been a freeware and not being a bad game for a freeware.
Cave Story is making history as we speak about it and would never end even if no new releases are made for the game. The fan made games would keep the engine of Cave Story alive and active by been used s lot.
I will Rate it:
Gameplay: 10/10 = For making it fun for anyone who wants to play.
Audio: 10/10 = Great Original Soundtrack.
Graphics: 8/10 = Great Retro game graphics but not that much different enemies.
Story: 8/10 = Great story but needs to be a longer one in my opinion.
Replay Value: 6/10 = Only people who plays retro games for fun would replay the game.
Average Score: 9/10 = Not the greatest game but it is worth playing the game.
If you don't like it for the PC there others methods. You can play it on the PSP (you'll need a custom frimware 2.xx or higher in other words a hacked PSP) or you can play on the wii. Note that cavestory will be release for the wii as a wiiware, plus I'll have more feature than its PC & PSP conterpart.
