[Nintendo has released a new update to the Wii’s firmware, which is (what some are calling) version 3.4. It is currently unclear whether the update disables the Twilight hack/Homebrew Channel. Below is a message Nintendo has provided regarding the update.
On Thursday, 10/23 starting at 7 AM, the Shopping Channel is undergoing maintenance longer than scheduled, and is currently not in service. We apologize for any inconvenience due to this maintenance.
With this maintenance, the following changes will be made.
Wii Points will soon be called Nintendo Points, and all references as such will be updated. All other functionality with Nintendo Points will remain the same.
The controller usage explanation screen will be updated.
The controller usage explanation screen will be separated from the purchase screen. Along with this, the user will be prompted to confirm that they have any necessary accessories before being able to press the Purchase button.
The design of the icons displayed will be updated.

You are lucky you have not updated
Toasted Donut
The homebrew community found a bug that allowed them to do this glitch again within 2 hours when version 3.3 was released, don't worry, the hackers will find another bug.

So I have to get a new homebrew channel?
Alright!!!!
Toasted Donut
I dunno, I suppose you would though.
EpE
OK I will search...............
Killman
That is hilarious. They just pwned Nintendo once again.
EpE
They had? When this happened?
Toasted Donut
Well they don't have one for version 3.4, yet. But I was reading about the Twilight glitch. It was exploited during version 3.2. Version 3.3 was meant to eliminate it but withing two hours another bug was found and all they had to do was make a slight change to the code. I imagine they will be able to find another bug in version 3.4 quickly too.

This sucks! i just had to update! because of this update, we can't hack the Wii for a long time. *sigh* what a drag! i'll just hack the psp. Sorry EpE
jesta
A valuable lesson there. Don't update until you know what it does. But if you had already installed it before you updated you should be ok. Obviously Wad Manager doesn't work, unless you had installed the Custom IOS for DVDX or the Backup Loader. Although things are still up in the air. Waninkoko a Homebrew Coder has already mentioned that he has a possible work-around but he also said that it was 'Dirty'. Marcan who gave us the Homebrew Channel does not want Waninkoko to do this as it may be a last resort. Give a couple of days and hopefully there will be a fix.
EpE
I will wait and see then....
Hopefully the next twilight hack would work....
Toasted Donut
I give it a week and they will have a fully functioning hack.

I am looking forward to that.

Man, I just checked my wii. I am currently have version 3.1u.... man I don't update very often. My firmware is so old, updates don't pop up when I try to play a game. Oh I installed homebrew by the way.
encetoy
Whats new about the update?
I wont update untill 4.0 comes out..
I hate minor updates
EpE
Please dont Update so you could use the Twilight Hack
Toasted Donut
Why not?
I installed the homebrew channel already, but for some reason nothing appears in the homebrew menu.
EpE
You have to make a folder called "apps" in the root of your SD card and put the applications you got....
Example:
SD Card > apps > wadloader
to load WADs for make a folder called "wad" or "wads" in the root of the SD card and put the WADs you got....
Example:
SD Card > wad or wads > [Enter a WAD]
Toasted Donut
I did. It would just go to the menu and nothing would load so I decided I might as well be update to sate for the next hack.
EpE
maibe you did one small mistake...
Toasted Donut
Oh well I just try again if a new bug is found.
EpE
What version is the homebrew you installed?
Toasted Donut
I now have version 3.3u...
EpE
Wait I will make a complete guide for people who wants to hack there Wii
I will be done in less than a week...
Toasted Donut
Homebrew is working again (they had another hack using a method they kept secret so Nintendo wouldn't fix it). I have the same problem but I think I know how to solve it.

The hackers have prevailed once again.
Toasted Donut
The current version was going to be released on Oct 23, but then that's when Nintendo released the update, so they rolled the new homebrew back 2 days in order to add the new hack. 2 days is pretty good.
jesta
It never takes them long does it?
Although HBC beta 9 is said to work with the latest update, you may still have to downgrade your firmware to 3.2 to actually install it on your Wii. To do this you will need a working version of WadManager and the correct IOSes to install. There is also a Wii Shop update that lets you update the shop channel to the newest version but without updating your firmware.
If anyone needs any help with any of this let me know and I'll be glad to help out
Toasted Donut
Actually HBC beta 9 does work with the new update.
jesta
Did you update and then install it? Or did you already have in installed and then you updated?
Johnhg7
OK before I updated I took out my SD card. So far it hasn't touched the save file. I would recommend making copy of the save file on something else if you plan to leave the SD card you have in now in.
EpE
Wii hacks are still in there baby stages so in 2-3 years they would be the greatest versions and then people should have no problems....

EpE

but nintendo will probably then make something to stop hackers once and for all

Hacking has been around even for old PCs like ImB or Apple 2...

Has there been a new update?
randomer199
Nope, my Wii disc slot light has remained dormant.
There should be one in the spring though, because that's when Nintendo said the major "storage fix" update will arrive. For anybody who doesn't know Nintendo's solution to the storage problem will be a frimware update which will allow VC and WiiWare games (and I assume other stuff) to run directly from an SD Card.
Speaking of updates, does anyone know if the new version of the Internet Channel is here yet? I haven't checked the Wii Shop Channel for ages so I don't know.
