I have not even looked at the Wii in about 5 months but I will probably turn it on for once to check out the update.

Every update does that now. Not that it is a serious problem - hackers always find a workaround sooner or later. Hell, one Wii update stopped the Twilight Hack from working. A few hours later, a new working Twilight hack was released. Hackers are always one step ahead, haha.
As for the update, in the long run it will be a godsend. Finally, some internal storage space again. The fix isn't exactly a 120gb hard drive, but then again the Wii would never need that much. SD cards for the moment will get the job done well. Maybe the next step now is to allow game saves to work from the SD card?

I think it already saves the games and you can copy them

I think EpE may be right. Still, it is great to actually have a storage solution of some sort, instead of Nintendo of being lazy.

No, I'm pretty sure that save games will not work if they are on an SD Card. Maybe I'll test it myself sometime.
