Is the Wii the best Nintendo console? The Wii is a big success with many titles, such as Super SMash Brothers Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, and other popular titles. But is this console really the best? Is the Wii better than anything else Nintendo has created?
Let's start at the beginning. The Game and Watch, created in 1980. This revolutionized the other consoles. An LED screen with everybody's favorite 2-d Character, Mr. Game and Watch. Today, this console is great for elderly people that aren't advanced in technology. The Wii is very complexed, so elderly and infants won't understand it as easily as the Game and Watch.
Now about the Game Boy. Nintendo went portable again and introduced this bad boy. It was a good old, 8 bit screen, machine. All that was needed to play was a cartridge of a game, so it's still in that league of elders and infants. (Oh, and by infants, I mean the ages of 6 and under.) The Game Boy also introduced Daisy. Where would Nintendo be without Daisy? But I think I skipped something.
Oh yes, the Nintendo Entertainment System. This was the console that made Nintendo number one. This was more of a family console (like the Famicom, won't go into detail about that console though) than a portable console. What was really great was the start. Each NES came with a copy of Super Mario Bros, the number one game of all time. Side scrolling, 8-bit, button mashing madness awaited you as your journey to rescue Toadstool from the menacing Bowser was there.
The SNES was a better version of the NES that had some great classics that introduced characters. Star Fox was one of them. Again, 8 bit still. But back than, 8-bit was enough. It was great. Well, it had some 8-bit. But this console introduced 16-bit! Better quality too!
The Virtual Console was one of a kind. It felt like you were in the game. I don't know much about this console, but it was new, and something people have never felt before.
Now we're in the good stuff now. The Nintendo 64. This 64 bit console has the greatest feedback ever. Titles such as Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time make this a great console. The controller was basic too. You have an A, B, L, R, Z, Control Stick, Control Pad, and those yellow arrows (I call them the C Arrows.)
I know what you're thinking, the Wii has the virtual console so you can play N64 or SNES games. Some people might not have Internet connection, or Wii points. Not everybody has everything.
Let's get a little more technical. Yep, I'm talking about emulators. Emulators are legal programs that allow you to play ROMs, illegal game data. This game data is loaded onto the emulator, and you can play a $50 game for free. However, some ROMs are protected by the ESA, and EVERY ROM is illegal. Also, if you do play a ROM, the game might be glitchy. So emulators aren't the best choice.
The Wii beats the GameCube hands down. If you can play GCN games on the Wii, what's the purpose of a GCN?
Now, I want to talk about Certain Wii Games. Take Super Mario Galaxy. It's a lot similar to Super Mario 64, isn't it? You need stars to progress farther in the game. Those top-like enemies are similar to bullies, the black ball enemies. You have many different worlds with unique parts about them.
So the Wii, I guess, is like all of Nintendo's old consoles combined into one average sized console. But is this white box the best of the best?

yeah its pretty good but if they make a second one that plays dvds and bluray discs it would be better

In my opinion, the Wii is not the best Nintendo console.
Far from it actually.
The Super Nintendo is my all time favorite.

The Wii is a pretty good piece of technology, but the hype for the Wii as great like the gamecube or the nintendo 64 or maybe the Super nintendo.

Ha-ha, no.
Elderly people love the Wii. Where was your source for that information? -_-
But really, it's all a matter of opinion. Personally, N64 was my favourite Nintendo console, but hey, as I said, it's merely an opinion.

(Don't forget all those fantastic Rare games that you will never be able to download, unless they involve Donkey Kong.)

Excellent point.
There are many great Rare games that probably will not be re-released on VC.

Overall, the wii is not the best console ever, i think it has the good aspects of every console they made, but still, itīs not the best.

Nintendo 64 is my favorite, but that's my opinion. I think the Wii is bit overrated. I think a lot of people are so happy to play with the wiimote and how it senses it but then they get it, play wii sports for a week maybe, then get a little disapointed. I might be wrong, but once again, it's my opinion,

I find it probably my favorite system next to N64...the Wii is probably revolutionary since you have to have some form of physical movement in games..Wii sports for example..I enjoy the Wii shop channel to download VC games and also that it's backwards compatible with GCN games, but I am not amused that you have to have the GCN controller to play those games...as far as the elderly, they sure love the Wii..keeps them active and helps keep them in shape...and hospitals have been known to use the Wii for aid in physical therapy...I would have never gotten back into Nintendo again if I never started to play the N64 again (thank you Mario Kart 64)...that's what led my desire to get the Wii

Ummm, but GC games were designed for the GC controller. How could you avoid not using it..........?

yeah...I know...it's obvious...just color me blond about the gamecube controller... I should have bought the gamecube wavebird controller when I saw it in the stores....I think that Nintendo should continue to sell gamecube controllers at retailers...

How about an online purchase?

Probably best to go on eBay or something like that....I will only get licensed Nintendo products....I am not sure how the quality is on third party products though...anyone have a 3rd party GCN controller and if so, does it work just as well as the original?

I would say it probably is, I think it's definitely better then the DS or the gamecube, and also beats the 64 for me, also it's a unique concept.

I think the Wii console is what it is. I don't think that it could be compared to the other consoles: such as the PS3 or the 360 at all cause the Wii is in a section all by itself. Nintendo has always done things for the benefit of KIDS. So in my mind Nintendo is a good console to have if you have kids. Same can be said if you enjoy the Nintendo console just for it's core character games: Link, Samus, & Mario. Sony has a few handful of games that are made just by Sony, but Microsoft has nothing (that I know of) that is just exclusive to it's library. So I think that Nintendo has the market where it is just because a lot of people are either old Nintendo fans or hear about how easy it is to play video games with a Wiimote & just dives into the sea this is now full of "casual gamers" here anymore. <.<

Late reply, but I do own a gamecube style controller made by a UK game store called GAME. Works pretty well. I have a tendency to avoid anything 3rd party as well, but it's certainly not all poorly made junk.
