Little Big Planet (Playstation 3) |

Wii Zone Blog
Platform: Playstation 3
Genre: Platformer
Developer: Media Molecule
ESRB: E
Little Big Planet is quite the experience. When it was first shown two years ago, people hve been wondering very hard about the purpose of the game and its release. Well, the game is now here and it is time to see how it stacks up to its developer's words.
Plot: Little Big Planet looks like a pretty simple platformer at first glance. This is close to the truth but it also misses the mark entirely. Sure the game is a platformer, but the design and overall presentation is astounding. One thing that seperates Little Big Planet is its extremely wacky but truly unique design. Each level in the story mode just gets crazier and crazier as you progress. The is not all about the pre-made levels though, far from actually. Very far from it. The biggest and most unique feature in this game is the very robust level creation system. Here, you can make just about any type of level that pops into your head. Using a load of different features within Sackboy's "Popit", you can customize your levels with a load of content. Stickers and decorations, all sorts different objects, different materials and elements, the possibilities are literally endless. The online play is something worth mentioning as well. Here, you can share any level that you have created and play any other users uploaded content. The online portion has its flaws though. While the game, I decided to try co-op play. Every single time of trying though, I was unable to. This is something that really needs to be fixed. Another bad thing about the game is the extreme learning curve. A learning curve was obviously expected here but it can take hours just to get used to making levels and what not. Once you learn though, it becomes second nature. Anyways, lets break down the statistics for this game.
Graphics: Although the game has a somewhat kiddy look to it, the game clearly shows off the graphic potential of the Playstation 3. Bright, vibrant colors and a load of detal on every single object make this game a surprising feast for the eyes.
Playability: This is one of LPB's small flaws. Though the controls are very simple and easy to understand, the jumping mechanics do not work 100%, though they are close. It is very easy to miscalculate jumps and just miss them. Other than that, the games controls become very simplistic later on as you learn them.
Sound: LPB's music is very nice. All of the music in the main storyline matches the tone perfectly and there are just tunes that make you feel good on the inside. (Glows)
Entertainment: The online play certainly does make the game better but as I have stated before, it has its flaws. The game though, has infinite replayability, which is something that I have not seen much in many games.
Overall: This game is a must buy for any Playstation 3 owner. Despite the minor problems, the game is just a completely unique and fun experience that must not be missed out on. The endless replayability and charming presentation make this game a top pick.
Score: 9.75 / 10
